goodbye

the day that you left isn't juxtaposed to the day that you came-
so i propose you stay here 'till the appropriate scene change,
when the snow falls on our faces and the icy street
chases us to our knees.

the day that you left
the cool breeze stuck between the strands of my hair
from the window, backseat.
because you bent to thirds,
i miss you less from there.

(but that's not the same as wanting to say
goodbye.
goodbye.
goodbye.)

time spins steady film on the reel.
when the credits roll you forget how you feel.
but even pedestrians can see
it's from the passenger seat that she takes the wheel
and drives you away

(from me
goodbye.
goodbye.
goodbye.)
